Social media is a very open, everyone can see everything. This is why it's important to keep your social media privacy settings up-to-date.

Instagram is a photo and video sharing social media platform where you have follows which can interact with you and your posts.
Instagram's privacy setting are quite straightforward. Even though you account defaults to public you can have a private account. This means that you accept follows who you want to see your posts and only they can see them. This also means non of your posts will feature on Photos tab of Search and Explore, or on a hashtag or location pages.

How to make your Instagram account private...

Desktop version:

Step 1 - Go to your profile

Step 2 - Click "Settings"

Step 3 - Click "Privacy" > "Account Privacy"

Step 4 - Click next to "Private Account" (making your account private)

Step 1 - Click on the three lines on the top right corner

Step 3 - Click on "Privacy"

Twitter...



Twitter is a social media platform where you can broadcast short posts/messages called tweets. 
When someone follows you on Twitter they can see everything you tweet, retweet and like. When you have a private Twitter account you need to manually accept follows unlike if you had a public account. People are also unable to retweet your tweets when you have a private account. Anyone who you haven't accepted won't be able to see your twitter feed or tweets. 

How to make your Twitter account private...

Step 2 - Click on "Settings and Privacy"

Step 3 - Click on "Privacy and Safety"

Step 4 - Tick the "Protect your Tweets" box

Facebook...

Facebook is defined as an online social networking website where people can create profiles, share information such as photos and quotes about themselves, and respond or link to the information posted by others. 
Facebook allows you to change your privacy settings for individual features. This means you can adjust the level of privacy for certain elements of the site such as how you're found and contacted on the site, who can see your posts, and even retroactively limit the audience of your past posts. This is different from all other social media platforms.

Step by step instructions:
1. Login to your Facebook account
2. Once on your news feed/home screen, navigate your curer to the upper right-hand corner of the screen, and click on it to reveal a drop down menu of options.  
3. Click onto "Settings"
4. On the left hand side of the screen you will see a list of options. Click "Privacy" 
5. To change a specific privacy element, click the "Edit" option to the far right of each section. 
6. You can make your Facebook even more private by changing who can tag you in posts, who can post on your Timeline, and who can share the posts you make to their own profiles. The options for these can be changed. They're found under the "Timeline and Tagging" section on the left-hand side of the screen, just below the "Security" option.

Tiktok is a video sharing app. It is used to create short dance, lip-sync, comedy and talent videos. 
Making your TikTok account private is pretty straight forward. When making your account private your videos will no longer be seen on the For You Page. You must also manually accept people to follow you and see your videos.

2. Select Privacy and Safety
3. Toggle the switch for "Private Account." 

YouTube...


YouTube is a video sharing platform, where you can upload and watch videos.

YouTube video privacy, the different types...

There are different types of YouTube videos when you upload one. 
Public - This is what your video will be defaulted to. This means that anyone can see your video. 
Private - This means only those you invite to view the video can view it (they must have their own YouTube accounts and the maximum number is 50 usernames). Your video will not come up under any search results or your channel list. If you try to share it with someone who wasn’t invited, they will not be able to connect to it. 
Unlisted - This means your video will not come up in search results or on your channel either.  Only those who know the link can view it, and you can share the link with anyone, even those who do not have a YouTube account/username. This means that this video could still be seen by anyone, but only if they guess the link, (which is very unlikely).
