Going Abroad

The Forest of Dean Trust holds a number of trip mobile phones which can be used by trip leaders.

These devices are all on the 3 network, and have a roaming contract allowing for use aboard (excluding USA).

The phone numbers of the devices are:
07727314017 - iPhone
07727315350 - iPhone
07455187032 - Motorola
07454402689 - iPhone
07462096995 - iPhone

If you are organising a trip and would like the leader(s) to have a phone then you need to raise a ticket with ICT. Please give us at least 2 weeks notice if possible

Please include the following details;
- Leaders name
- Date of trip and when the phone will be needed from
- When we expect the phone to be returned
- Any apps which will be needed
- If there is a specific number required (optional)

We will prepare the device(s) and once ready we will contact the trip leader(s)

Once you have the device please check the following;
- The PIN on the device is 258789
- We advise you set your fingerprint to access the device. To do this Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, enter the PIN 258789. Turn on iPhone unlock and follow the wizard to scan your fingerprint
- Make sure everything you need is installed,
- Can you make calls in and out?
- Have you have been given a suitable charging cable?

When aboard we have the following advice;

Security

- Make usure you have set a fingerprint scan to unlock the device - see above
- Make sure the phone is stored somewhere safe

Roaming

- Where possible use Wi-Fi to reduce roaming charges - Since 31 December 2020, the EU rules on roaming charges ceased to apply in the UK. This means that, like other destinations, the amount your mobile provider can charge you for using your mobile phone in EU countries, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein is no longer capped.
- Avoid data heavy activities such as watching video or downloading music unless required.
- You are able to set up the device as a mobile hotspot if you need to connect a laptop of other device that doesn't have a SIM card. However be aware this will just charge your mobile SIM so should be avoided unless required.
- We have configure the phone to disable mobile data on many secondary apps. If you need to change this it can be updated in settings > Mobile data and turn on the app you need
- Close apps you aren't using will reduce battery drain and stop them using data when not needed. You do this by double pressing the home button and then swipe up all the apps you don't need at that time.
